Plateau Floors import and install exceptional quality bamboo flooring and engineered wood flooring throughout New Zealand.
We are proud to offer products that feature industry-leading innovations, setting the bench-mark for technical features, technical quality and natural beauty.
For example, designer engineered hardwood floors from ter Hürne of Germany feature a wide range of technical features including impregnated surfaces to protect against moisture and flexible lacquers for increased scratch resistance. These features are matched by a design-rich range of colours and surface treatments.
Plateau bamboo floors are architectural quality and are made using a patented single step hot-pressed plank construction which provides a harder, more stable floor. A Waxguard coating on the Uniclic joint prevents squeaks and maximises water resistance.
Environmental assurance for ter Hürne wooden flooring is provided through FSC and PEFC-certification. For every tree taken, another is planted.
FSC-certified bamboo flooring is also available on request.

Ter Hurne Eng Parquet brochure reduced final.pdf
Grades describe the expressive power of a wood floor. The careful selection and combination of knot content, grain and colour interplay add an entirely personal touch to each wood floor. The examples below show Oak grades.
Even Grade
A particularly harmonious surface, the absence of knots produces uniform colouring.
Balanced Grade
The balanced grain, fine knots and occasional traces of sapwood create a surface that is entirely reminiscent of nature.
Expressive Grade
Defined knots and visible sapwood create a vibrant and richly contrasting surface appearance.
Impulsive Grade
Large knots, intense interplay of colours and
rustic structures give this particularly lively floor a healthy dose of individualism.
Surface Treatments
Experiencing real wood means also feeling its contours. Brushing the soft parts of the wood intensifies the wholly natural feel.
The elegant grain of the wood reflects the fresh and bright impression created by the limed surface.
The coloured paste penetrates the
brushed depths of the surface. It
provides imaginative and richly
contrasting emphasis to the grain.
Wood design at its purest. The hand-primed off-set crack runs like a vein through the grain of the plank.
Ash in particular reveals a whole new range of colours if subjected to thermo-treatment for differing lengths of time.
Special colours give certain types of wood a totally new look while still sustaining the striking appearance of the grain.
Smoking the surface intensifies the impact of dark, powerful surfaces.
Traces of age are added to give the surface an antique, rustic flair right from the very start.
The discreet 4 sided bevel at the edge of the plank ensures that each individual plank is clearly defined in the overall pattern of the floor. It highlights the typical expression of the plank more vividly.
Real wood wear layer
Ter Hürne uses solid wood from selected German and European suppliers for the wear layer.
Middle layer
Ter Hürne uses a middle layer made from transverse solid pine wood strips for planks and strip floors. The special gluing method provides extremely good stability. In order to give the top connections the best possible fit and stability, special top pieces made from MDF are used.
Stabilising layer
The stabilising layer is used to stabilise the structure
A total plank thickness of 13mm is the perfect dimension for both renovations and new builds.
The narrow plank has a total thickness of 11mm which is ideal for renovations.
Optimum protection against moisture
Impregnated
Handling water is part of everyday life in every household. The highly effective oil/wax impregnation ensures that moisture which is unintentionally left standing on the floor for a relatively long time cannot penetrate into the surface.
This special oil/wax emulsion at the ends of the planks prevents rapid penetration into the surface. Every engineered wood product from ter Hürne enjoys this particular luxury.
Incredibly easy installation
CLICKitEASY
The patented CLICKitEASY connection with the ingenious door-lock principle truly lives up to its name: Click the top edges of the planks together with gentle pressure, and the black tongue made from sturdy plastic locks the planks securely and easily in place. Installing CLICKitEASY brings genuine advantages:
AkusTec
The AkusTec product consists of a 2mm or 3mm acoustic underlay.
The properties of AkusTec underlay at a glance:
• High noise reduction (-34% footfall sound) according to IHD works
standard 431.
• Levelling of minimal floor unevenness with a noise-reducing effect:
the soft material adapts itself flexibly to the underlying floor,
preventing the formation of hollow spaces.
• Thanks to the low installation height of the AkusTec, the total
structure is still low and thus renovation friendly.
• The material is environmentally friendly and does not contain any
emitting or harmful substances.
The multi-layered lacquered structure gives added protection against strong impacts, because it is both elastic and flexible.
Lacquered surfaces that are too hard and rigid lead to clearly visible scratches. The ter Hürne lacquered floors are particularly easy to care for.
Natural surface protection
Natural Oil
Oil-treated engineered wood floor surfaces have a unique, natural charisma and feel just like pure wood. Oiled floors will never require future sanding. The natural oil prevents dirt or stains from penetrating into the surface. The look and texture remain naturally beautiful, because oil-treated floors from ter Hürne are simply resistant.
Real Wood
In order to make it easier to identify original products, our solid wood and engineered parquet flooring bears the Real Wood logo. This logo is the guarantee of product authenticity, and gives you the confidence of knowing that you have bought the right product.
eco
The test symbol and the seal of quality are the connecting link between innovative and committed manufacturers and health-oriented, demanding consumers. Product certification steps in when the limits specified by the law for substances that are hazardous to health are either nonexistent or we consider them to be too low.
The eco institute checks and evaluates products such as mattresses, bedding, furniture and floors and grants them the right to bear the eco institute label.
The eco institute is also certified as an expert, accredited test organisation for other test organisations and label providers.
FSC
We are committed to using wood from environmentally friendly forestry. We always endeavour to procure wood from non-critical sources. This is achieved by means of responsible supplier selection, intensive dialogue, and on-site monitoring.
It is part of our long-standing tradition as a wood processing company that we always try to use local and national forest resources wherever possible. The wood that we obtain from other countries is subjected to continuous monitoring.
Provisions are also made by procuring wood that is protected by independent certification systems.
The ter Hürne company has been FSC COC certified since April 2006 (GFA-COC-1364).
PEFC
The ter Hürne company has been PEFC certified since March 2009.

Plateau bamboo flooring is architectural quality and features the famous Uniclic glue-less drop-lock system for a quick, easy installation.
Plateau bamboo is available in a range of colours and surface designs.
Our award winning factory patented the Hotpress technology used to produce each bamboo plank. This means each plank is made from bamboo material fused at high temperature into a single plank for a harder, denser more stable floor. By comparison, the commonly used cold pressed method glues blocks of bamboo together lengthwise before milling, resulting in a weaker plank and more plank movement (instability) after installation.
A Wax-guard coating on the Uniclic joint prevents squeaks and makes the floor more water resistant.
Plateau bamboo is coloured throughout by advanced thermal colour treatment*, without using toxic dyes, and is protected by seven coats of German water-based polyurethane with ceramic anti-scratch coating.
FSC-certified bamboo flooring is available, please ask us for details. By buying products with the FSC label you're supporting the growth of responsible forest management worldwide.
A 15 year residential structural warranty comes with every Plateau bamboo floor.
Plateau Compressed bamboo flooring is twice as hard as most wooden floor species and 80% harder than Jarrah wood floors, for exceptional durability.

Bamboo flooring is relatively new in New Zealand and to the flooring market. Hardwood floors have always been popular because of their natural beauty, durability and clean, classic look. Bamboo flooring offers a green alternative that may suit your lifestyle.
Unlike wood floors, bamboo flooring does not have a universal grading system; it's very hard for the consumer to tell the quality of bamboo flooring just by looking at the surface of a sample. With bamboo flooring, there is a lot going on beneath the surface, so it's important to purchase from experienced suppliers who can clearly demonstrate the quality of their product.
It helps to purchase off importers who have many years experience in the bamboo flooring industry as it is only extensive experience that teaches importers the differences in quality that exist. Ensure your supplier can give you detailed information about the manufacturing plant such as ISO manufacturing standards, as well as the source of milling equipment (this should be European), lacquers used (there should be at least 6 coats of European water-based lacquer, and an aluminium oxide anti-scratch coating) and any patents or technology advantage that the manufacturer holds, –such as Uniclic glue-less locking system, hot-pressed molding technology, or FSC- certification.
If you buy compressed bamboo ensure that you purchase hot-pressed bamboo. This means each plank is made from bamboo material fused at high temperature into a single plank for a harder, denser more stable floor. By comparison, the cold pressed method glues blocks of compressed bamboo separately together lengthwise before milling, resulting in a weaker plank and more plank movement (instability) after installation.
Below we explore the differences and similarities between both Hardwoods and Bamboo Flooring, helping you understand the benefits of each. Either option can give your home a beautiful, durable, sustainable flooring solution.
o Bamboo'’s biggest benefit is that it is eco-friendly. Bamboo (Moso) can grow as much as 1 metre in a single day, making it a fast renewable resource. Once cut bamboo continues to grow. Bamboo is currently grown in many places around the world, including China. The regeneration rate of bamboo has made it a fashionable material for a variety of "green" products, from clothing to paintbrushes. There is another side to the debate. Trees regenerate as well. Though it may take longer for trees to grow large enough to be harvested, they provide more wood when the time comes. This eventually means that harvesting wood requires less energy, fuel and labour.
o Hardwood forests that are managed to PEFC or FSC environmental standards ensure that for every tree taken, another is planted. If you are looking to buy a hardwood floor, make sure you ask for proof that the product comes from an FSC or PEFC-certified source. The importer will be happy to show you the certificate. Tropical wood species generally are NOT from well managed forests. Species such as Merbau (Kwila), which is still popular in NZ, unfortunately often come from illegal sources. Many retailers in the UK and USA will now not stock Kwila and some countries have banned its importation. In New Zealand Kwila is still popular, however the consumer can do their bit by asking for enviromental certification from their retailer.
Bamboo forests can also be FSC-certified. There have been occurances of virgin hardwood forests being cleared in China to make way for bamboo plantings - it's important to purchase FSC-certified bamboo flooring which certifies that the bamboo forest has been managed and harvested sustainably.
o When thinking of purchasing bamboo flooring, one significant advantage is the hardness of the product meaning it won’t dent as much over time compared to some wood species. Bamboo tends to come in two distinct varieties; carbonised (coffee) and natural. Carbonised bamboo is darker in colour but slightly softer than its counterpart. To achieve the rich dark colour, the bamboo is steamed, which softens the bamboo slightly. Natural bamboo flooring is slightly harder and lighter in colour. Bamboo is approx 80% harder than Kwila which is often used as decking or flooring in New Zealand.
o Hardwood flooring can vary greatly in hardness depending on the species. Most New Zealand native species tend to be soft, while the very popular White Oak (about 70% of all wood flooring used in Europe is Oak) is of medium hardness.
